How Do You Know If You Are Ready For PR?
Getting featured in a bunch of PR pieces is the dream of many entrepreneurs and business owners. It makes you look amazing and really shows the world that you are a trusted authority figure in your space. However, how do you know if you are ready for PR? Not everybody that wants PR is actually ready for the spotlight. Some people don’t have the right mindset, or others are too scatter-focused, and getting PR at the wrong time can actually hurt your progress. So down below are a few different checkpoints for knowing if you’re ready for PR.
POINT #1: YOU ALREADY HAVE A BRAND
PR is great for branding, but if you don’t have a brand, all you’ll be doing is gaining personal publicity. While this isn’t a bad thing, it might not make sense to do this unless you are a celebrity and your work revolves around only your personality. Determine whether your brand revolves around your business or yourself, and go from there. Don’t invest into PR until you are clear about who you are, what your brand is, and what your messaging is.
Here are a few examples of people that might not be ready to invest into PR:
Somebody that wants to become a YouTuber, but hasn’t started a channel yet
A TikToker that shares about their hobbies online but has no plans to monetize their content
An entrepreneur that hasn’t decided what niche to grow in
On the contrary, here are a few examples of people that are ready for PR:
A business owner that wants to attract more attention to their store
A chiropractor with their own practice that wants to be more trusted
A young entrepreneur that has decided to go all in with a specific niche
POINT #2: YOU WANT TO STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD AND MAKE AN ROI
PR is not for the faint of heart. Getting on TV or being interviewed in a podcast is something that you need to want. Getting verified on social media will bring you a lot of attention. If you don’t want to grow, don’t want to stand out, or don’t believe that PR is actually that great, you probably aren’t the best person to be getting it because you won’t value it. If you don’t value PR, you won’t use it, and you won’t gain any returns from it. It will simply be a waste of money
POINT #3: YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO INVEST INTO YOURSELF
Getting PR is not always about making an instant return on your money. If you want instant returns, you need to be investing into ads instead. PR is a long-term game. Investing in yourself and your business does not always look like putting two dollars in and getting four dollars back immediately. Sometimes it means spending five or six figures and not seeing it come back for another few months or even years. Investing into yourself means building your own value, and eventually that comes back to help you grow. PR works in a similar fashion. The value that it brings you is often not returned instantly in money value, but rather in other ways like trust, authority, credibility, exposure, and eventually that leads to many more sales and opportunities.
POINT #4: YOU SHOW UP CONSISTENTLY
When I talk about showing up, I don’t just mean showing up to work every day. I mean being consistent on social media by sharing content. Being consistent and putting out content can be a lot more impactful than only getting on tv. For example, look at all the famous tiktokers. Most of them have not been on TV or Forbes or anything fancy like that. Most of them are famous simply because they were consistent with putting out content. If you want to guarantee that you will gain massive returns with your PR, you need to start now by gaining an audience through consistency with valuable content.
POINT #5: YOU HAVE MONEY FOR INVESTING
While this point is not as important for those that are just starting out, this is something that absolutely needs to be addressed. If you’re going to invest into yourself or your business, you need some money set aside specifically for that. While consistent content can be enough, like it is for those famous TikTokers mentioned earlier, most people don’t get that lucky. If you want a guaranteed spot in a Forbes or Entrepreneur article, you need money to pay for that placement and those connections. The same goes for nearly any high-tier PR placement. If you’re not willing to pay for your brand to grow, you’re not ready to invest into PR.
IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START, START WITH CONTENT
Content is free. Whether you have money or not, this is the best place to go. It’s simple and it builds character. When you get into a routine of being consistent and always showing up, people notice that, and they admire it. Once that starts flowing, then take the next step and invest into an actual paid piece of PR. The ROI of trust and authority is something that you simply need to experience to understand. So if that’s you and you’re ready to take that jump, book a free call here and get ready to invest into your PR.
